terms of service

Terms.

These are the terms for Tracelane: the tracelane.dev website, the open-source software, and the paid hosted service. By creating a workspace or subscribing to a paid plan, you agree to them.

The service

Tracelane is a reliability platform for AI agents. The hosted service provides a gateway that proxies your traffic to LLM providers using your own provider keys, full-fidelity trace capture and querying, inline guardrail checks, and a tamper-evident audit ledger — included on every tier, free and paid. You may also self-host the open-source core instead.

Software license

The Tracelane codebase is licensed under Apache 2.0. The /spec directory is CC0. Paid features are gated by workspace entitlements at the application layer, not by a separate license.

Site content license

The content on tracelane.dev (text, structure, design) is licensed CC-BY-4.0. You may reuse with attribution. Third-party brand names mentioned on this site (Anthropic, OpenAI, Cloudflare, Helicone, LiteLLM, etc.) remain the property of their owners.

Plans and billing

Paid plans are billed monthly or annually in advance, plus usage on six meters (ingest, hot indexed window, series, query compute, cold archive, evaluations):

Usage above your plan's included allowance on any meter bills continuously per unit, with no rollover of unused allowance; ingest is never blocked by billing state, on any tier. Free ages out after 14 idle days rather than being billed or blocked. Plan entitlements are enforced in the product; if the product and this page ever disagree, tell us and we will fix the page.

Payment processing

Polar Software Inc. is our Merchant of Record. Polar is the seller for your subscription, issues your invoice, and handles global tax collection (EU VAT, US sales tax, India GST, and ~50 other jurisdictions). Card details go to Polar and its payment processor — we never see or store them. Polar's own terms apply to the payment transaction alongside these terms.

Your data and your keys

Your trace data is yours. We claim no ownership of it and do not use it to train models. You grant us only the licence needed to run the service for you — to store, process, and display your data back to you.

Provider keys are bring-your-own. They are envelope-encrypted at rest, bound to your workspace, and never written to logs, spans, or error messages. You remain responsible for your provider accounts, for the charges your traffic incurs with those providers, and for the content you send through the gateway. See the privacy policy for what we process and where it lives.

Audit ledger retention

The tamper-evident audit ledger is append-only and retained for the life of the ledger. This is deliberate: a record whose entries can be selectively removed is not tamper-evident, and the ledger exists to be relied on by auditors and regulators. Erasure requests cover your traces and account data; ledger records are excluded for this reason. If you close your account, you may export the ledger first.

Acceptable use

Do not use Tracelane to break the law, to attack or overload our infrastructure or a provider's, to resell the hosted service as your own, or to process data you have no right to process. Free hosted plans are for non-commercial use.

Termination

You may cancel at any time from your billing settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period and we do not pro-rate partial months. You may export your data before or after cancelling. We may suspend or terminate an account for non-payment or for a breach of acceptable use, with notice where circumstances allow. On termination we retain your data for 30 days so you can recover it, then purge it on request or on schedule.

Uptime

Uptime figures published on the pricing page are objectives, not contractual SLAs with service credits. A formal SLA with credits is available on Enterprise contracts.

No warranty

The software and the site are provided "as is" under the Apache 2.0 license, without warranty of any kind. Nothing on this site constitutes a binding commitment to ship features, dates, or SLAs until contractual terms are signed.

Governing law

Tracelane operates as a sole proprietorship based in Bangalore, Karnataka, India. These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts at Bangalore have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change materially affects a paying customer, we will email you before it takes effect.
